We tend to think of the mind as something we that is running in the background, independent of our conscious will. “My mind is tired.” “My mind is racing.” “I changed my mind.” As if it were an autonomous internal device - slightly overworked, occasionally dramatic, and mostly responsible for overthinking text messages at 2 a.m.
